  • Ten scalp coolers for J80 which is the day chemotherapy ward at The Bexley Wing - Leeds Cancer Centre. These prevent hair loss during treatment and have cost £110,000.

  • A lead nurse in Systemic Anti Cancer Therapy. This is the treatment of cancers using specialist medicines, chemotherapy and drugs to modify how the body’simmune system responds. The cost being £56,000.

​

  • Two venepuncture / cannulation arms. These are essential and used to train doctors and nurses how to cannulate  patients for both scans and treatment. A cost of £1,072.

​

  • Fifteen drip stands for J89. These are vital for patient care and need to be available to provide efficient administration of drugs. The cost being £3,087.

​

  • The re-furbishment of J95, this is the waiting area for patients who have come in for emergency assessment.  This includes comfortable and appropriate seating, a coffee machine and a relaxing, calming environment for patients and families who spend an amount of time waiting to be seen and treated. The cost of this is £18,416.

​

  • Enhanced remote control reclining armchairs for chemotherapy patients on J80. This is the day ward where on an average day they treat over 80 patients in allforms of chemotherapy. These are crucial for patient comfort. A cost of £14,992.

​

  • J94 art therapy, this helps with patients recovery. The cost being £229.

​

  • J94 a LED panel to the ceiling of the surge room. This is used for patients in isolation but does not have any natural light from windows. The surge panel providesan image of the sky so that when patients are laid down they have a focal point. The cost of this is £1,780.

​

  • Two vital sign monitors for the radiotherapy department. At a cost of £3,720.

​

  • J81/HDU can be a very clinical environment and patients are often critically ill or are being monitored after extensive surgery for cancer. To make it more homely we have funded comfortable chairs to improve rehabilitation. Dementia clocks to help them re-orientate, artwork to the walls of the ward for a better patient experience and finally night lamps that provide a much more calming aura. The total cost of this is £17,661.

  • A hoist for the radiotherapy department, to assist less mobile patients in their treatment. This was funded in loving memory of Jason Salvin. The cost being £3,615.

​

  • The Bexley Hotel is situated on the top floor of the hospital and is there for patients free of charge who do not live locally that need to be treated each day but do not have to be on a ward, such as for radiotherapy. It is also used for families when they need to be close by their loved ones. We have funded new TV’s and kettles for the rooms at a cost of £9,838.

​

  • Patients on J94 are often critically ill and can be there a long time. We have donated £1,000 so that the nurses can buy cards, gifts etc for patients on their birthdays or special occasions.

​

  • A bladder scanner for the radiotherapy department. This helps significantly with the process of treatment for patients. The cost being £7,025.

​

  • J80 pagers so that when patients arrive at the day ward if there are long delays, they are able to go have a coffee in the hospital while waiting and are then paged when required for treatment. The cost is £2,370.

​

  • Six vital sign monitors for outpatients at a cost of £9,300.

​

  • Four mobility dignity screens at a cost of £12,312.

​

  • Four visitors mattresses and beds for the Bexley Hotel. The cost being £1,012.

​

  • Two phlebotomy chairs for J80 at a cost of £1,997.

​

  • A Bereavement Nurse for Palliative and End of Life Care. The hospital has an excellent reputation for end of life care, ensuring that patients individual needs are met, aiming to get the care right for both them and their families at such a difficult time. The role also included education andsupport for ward staff who experience distress following patient care they have been involved in. The cost of this is £53,000.

  • The Crosses and Hearts given to cancer patients that have a faith or none, these are known to bring peace and comfort to a patient during their stay inhospital and as something to take away. They are also kept with the patient after death. Cost of this is £2,000.

​

  • Innovative equipment to treat oral mucositis - a debilitating condition that affects head & neck cancer patients receiving chemotherapy & radiotherapy. The cost of this is £20K.
     

  • The journey of cancer medicine poster explaining patients journey for the chemotherapy day ward J80. The cost being £660.
     

  • Drip stands specifically purchased for J80. These are vital for patient care to efficiently administer drugs. The cost being £1745.
     

  •  Tea Trolley, thermos jugs and mugs for the day ward J80. These are so important when patients are on treatment most of the day needing refreshments. The cost being £1020.
     

  •  Artwork to the walls of the Radiotherapy department, in quiet rooms, clinic and treatment rooms. This provides and creates a sense of calm and relaxation before and during treatment. The cost is £8860.
     

  •  Artwork for the Photobiomodulation room again providing a more pleasant environment for patients. This cost £2674.
     

  • Four reclining chairs for the Radiotherapy department. Again trying to give the patient the best possible experience during treatment. These cost £8699.
     

  • The following training aids, these are essential to train both doctors and nurses  in the care of cancer patients:

    Pressure Ulcer Training Model £684.
    Trachy Care Simulator £1644.
    Basic Catheter Simulator £624.
    Chester Chest £1463.
     

  • Fluorescent Assessment Software £3k.
     

  • Chemotherapy Trolleys for J80 £3240.
     

  • Innovative equipment to support the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma patients £20K
     

  •  Six Reclining chairs for patients on J80 £12,390.
     

  • Patient Information Screens £4392
     

  •  Folding Down Chairs by the lifts. These are helpful for patients who are less mobile when waiting for a lift to go to other levels of the hospital £3023.
     

  • Prescribing Training Course. This enables nurses on the ward to prescribe medication without having a doctor present £2k.
     

  • Memory making items for teenagers with terminal cancer £5700.
     

  • Table and chairs for the Paediatric Radiotherapy Department. These are used by children when playing and doing activities while waiting for treatment £140.
     

  • Radiotherapy Clothes Store £330.
     

  • Wall art in the outpatients department. This makes it more welcoming for patients while waiting to see specialists. This cost is £331.
     

  • Ward J96 new family room furniture, flooring and wall art. This room is used by patients and families when they need time together away from the ward and when times are hard receiving difficult news. The cost being £4461.
     

  • Replacement scalp cooling caps for J80. This is the day ward where many patients go for treatment and the caps are used to prevent hair loss during chemotherapy £10,560.
     

  • J80 Artwork to the walls for the waiting room and treatment ward. This makes it a more welcoming environment when patients come for regular treatment. The cost being £9916.
     

  • Flojac Silver Flat Lift Kit.  This is used if patients have a fall.  Rather than a hoist which can in some cases hurt or injure a frail patient this kit comes flat & can be placed under the patient & then pumped up to lift them off the floor safely.  The cost of is being £9383.

  • Refurbishment of ward J93 - costs still to be advised
     

  • Chairs Bexley Hotel - estimated cost £10,401.
     

  •  J94 Patient Trolley - estimated cost £5k.
     

  • To facilitate the recruitment of a Health Play Specialist for the Paediatric Radiotherapy and Oncology Departments. The cost being £33k per year.  (The intention is to support this role for two years)
